What is the schedule for retreats?
A typical day for scheduled retreats:
- 10:00 – 11:30 / First session
- 12:00 – 1:00 / Second session
- 1:00 – 2:00 / Lunch
- 2:00 – 3:30 / Third session
- 4:00 – 5:00 / Fourth session
Tea breaks are from 11:30 – 12:00 and 3:30 – 4:00. Please note that the timing of sessions and breaks may vary slightly depending on the specifics of your retreat.
What accommodations do you offer?
Private, comfortable rooms with a stunning view of the Bay and San Francisco Bay Bridge or our peaceful Meditation Garden. Perfect for reflection and rest. Shared restrooms and showers.
What kind of food do you serve?
We serve vegetarian meals created fresh in our on-site kitchen. If you have any food sensitivities or special conditions, please let us know as soon as possible.

We are located at 1815 Highland Place, Berkeley, California.
Where do I park?
To enter the parking lot, stay on Hearst Ave until you pass Highland Place, then turn left.
Is there public transportation to Nyingma Institute?
The closest BART station is Downtown Berkeley, which is a 30 minute walk and partially uphill. If you are visiting for a retreat and have bags with you, we recommend taking a taxi or bus. Please check Google Maps for the buses that stop nearby.
What is the closest airport to Nyingma Institute?
The closest airports are Oakland International and San Francisco International airports, both of which connect directly to BART (at Coliseum and San Francisco International Airport stops, respectively.)
How do I travel from the airport to Nyingma Institute?
If you are arriving by plane, we encourage you to either arrange a shuttle from the airport (we recommend Bay Porter) or take BART to Downtown Berkeley and a taxi from there to the Nyingma Institute.
If I’m visiting the Bay Area for a retreat, can I extend my stay?
Yes, if you are taking one of our retreats, you can also arrange for a longer personal stay afterwards to rest or explore the area.
